| Mahendra
Sanskrit University was established in 1986
A.D. under Mahendra Sanskrit University
Act 2043 B.S. with the objectives to systematize
Sanskrit education up to higher level, to
preserve and promote the achievements of
Sanskrit education in different sectors
of Nepalese society, and to develop the
kingdom of Nepal into an international center
for learning and deriving inspiration from
the Sanskrit heritage of knowledge.
Basically,
MSU aims at producing qualified persons
to safeguard national culture, norms and
values from great books and classical thoughts
written in Sanskrit including practical
subjects like Ayurveda, Jyautisha, Nature
Cure and Yogic Sciences.
This university
has the following major aims & objectives:
- There
is a great need in the nation for authentic
intellectuals in various classical subjects.
This university will fulfill the need
by systematizing the present Sanskrit
education.
- Even
the age of science, which develops the
world materially, needs spiritual development
(if the world is to live long). MSU
will concentrate itself on both aspects
of life: spiritualism and materialism,
while imparting the education.
- At
the same time this university will pay
enough attention to developing
the applied subjects such as Ayurveda,
astrology, Yoga, and naturopathy.
- MSU
will gradually work for its economic
independence.
- It
will protect and utilize the donations
received from different donors.
- It
will conduct researches into classical
contemplation and use the output in
the welfare of mankind and world
- It
will design its curricula in a way that
Sanskrit students be morally ideal disciplined,
patriotic and loyal to their reverent
culture as well as tradition, and that
their gurus are the pathfinders for
them.
- It
will make efforts to involve foreign
intellectuals and experts in the pursuit
of Sanskrit and strive to become an
international center of excellence for
Sanskrit studies.
- In
whatever run of life, the Sanskrit students
should bear the national culture and
impressively identify others with it.
MSU will impart education with this
mantra in the mind.
Besides,
our forefathers, Rhishis like Vyasa, having
spent thousands of arduous years, formulated
this incomparable treasury of wisdom and
knowledge, which has now been passed on
to us. It must not perish if it cannot prosper.
The fundamental responsibility of MSU is
to transfer the heritage safely on to the
succeeding generation.
Keeping
in mind, the demand of time and need of
nation, MSU has run classes in modern subjects
like Nepali, English, Maths, Economics,
Political Sciences under group 'B'.
With
the five Sanskrit colleges run under Tribhuvan
University in different regions of Nepal,
MSU started its academic activities indepentdetly
in 1986
and now it is running 12 constituent Vidyapeethas
and 13 campluses under its affiliation.
